General Membership Meeting and election scheduled - The Skating Club of Erie General Membership meeting is scheduled for 7:00PM on Monday May 5th in the basement room at Coach's at the corner of West 38th & Elmwood.  All members are encouraged to attend.  Elections for the open board seats will occur on this evening.  All families with a player in the program as of May 1 2008 are entitled to one vote as well as being eligible to run for a board position.  Nominations for board openings will be accepted anytime between now and the election, including at the General Membership meeting itself.  If you are interested in running for a position on the Skating Club of Erie Board of Directors please contact Mike Kohler.

I would just like to thank everyone for coming out to the tryout. Everyone had a good showing at the tryout sessions.  The coaches had a tough time selecting the team. The following is a list of the players selected to be members of the 2008-2009 Erie Icemen Bantam travel team:

March 17 - Icemen 96s Do It Again!  The Icemen 96 team capped off a very successful season with their second tournament championship in a week.  They went 4-0 enroute to winning their division in the Mentor Ice of March tournament this past weekend.  They defeated the Erie Lions 1-0 in the championship game.  The Lion's goaltender was great in the championship stopping 40 of 41 shots.  Congratulations to the Lions for a great game.  The Icemen goaltending tandem of Brandon Jones and Sam Duncan was superb allowing only one goal all weekend.  For the second week in a row Jamie Collins scored the game-winning goal in the final.  After starting 0-10 they finished on a 21-4-6 streak.  Congratulations kids - way to go!

March 16 - One of our 95 players suffered a serious break to his upper thigh in their finale against Mentor this weekend.  Jesse Pershun went into the corner to deliver a check, got tangled up, hit the boards awkwardly and had to be taken from the ice on a stretcher.  He came out of surgery in stable condition Sunday evening and is starting down the road to recovery.  We had to leave a man behind in Cleveland this weekend but he is on all of our minds.  We wish Jesse a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing our friend on the ice again next year.  We ask everyone to keep Jesse and the Pershun family in their thoughts and prayers. UPDATE - Jesse went home on Monday afternoon.  Surgery went well and he was released to begin his recovery at home.  He does seem to be sad that he will be missing a little school though.  It will be a little while before he's up and around again but he is expected to make a full recovery by summer.

March 10 - Congratulations to the Icemen 96 team for their championship in the 27th Annual State College Invitational Ice Hockey Tournament.  They won the championship with a 2-1 victory over host State College.  They went 3-0-1 overall for the weekend and are on a 17-4-6 tear since November 18th.  Congratulations kids!

The Erie Icemen will be holding tryouts for Squirts A/AA, Peewees A/AA and Bantams A/AA on March 17th & 19th at the Igloo Ice Arena

Cost is $10 per session.  A non-refundable commitment fee of $150 is due if your player is selected to a team.  The commitment fee will count toward next year’s player registration fee.  For more information contact Steve Metzler (572-0151) or Scott Collins (434-6291)

01/02/08 - The 2007 edition of the Erie Icemen Winter Invitational Youth Hockey Tournament concluded on Saturday December 29, 2007 at the Erie Civic Center.  A hearty Thank You to all teams that came to Erie for the holidays.  There was some great hockey played including an epic championship game in the Pee Wee Minor division between the Icemen and the Olean Arrows that was won by Olean in double overtime.  Congratulations to all Division Champions:

Squirts - Mentor, OH

 Pee Wee Minor - Olean, NY

 Pee Wee Major - Monroe County, NY

Bantams - Port Colborne, ON

Complete tournament results can be viewed by clicking here.  Special thanks to all coaches who particpated in the Coach's Game on Friday night.  The white team prevailed in a shootout 5-4, not that the score mattered.  Except to the assembled crowd who chanted for a shootout after the game ended in a regulation tie.  IIn addition to the excellent competition the tournament was a great success in large part to the phenomenal effort put in by the tournament committe and volunteers that worked the rinks each day.  Do not forget to visit the web site for Ohio Sports Shooters.  They were the professional photographers who shot the tournament and they took some great action photos.  Thanks for coming to Erie - we hope to see you all again next year.

Nov 26 - We would like to thank everyone who worked to make our Casino/Dance Night fundraiser that was held on Saturday Nov 24 a success.  The evening went off very well and has everyone looking forward to the next event.  Many thanks to the parents and families that worked and prepared the baskets that were raffled off.  Especially many thanks to the members of the Erie community that turned out to support our program.  Our next event will be a Gun Raffle held in coordination with the Erie Firefighters in January.  Details will be posted here as they become available. 

Oct 18 - Three games have been added to the Pee Wee Major schedule - a home game against Jamestown on Jan 6 and a home and home series with Olean.  The road game with Olean is Sunday 12/9 at 4PM, the home game is on Feb 23.  Please review the Pee Wee Major schedule link for complete details. 

Oct 10 - The Pee Wee Major schedule has been updated and is complete through December 23.  Games will continue to be added as they are scheduled.  Please note that a practice has been added on Sunday Oct 14, 1:15PM at the Igloo and the Pee Wee major practice scheduled for Friday Oct 26 has been moved forward from 7:30PM to 6:15PM.

Oct 10 - The Pee Wee Minor schedule has been updated and is complete through December 23.  Games will continue to be added as they are scheduled.  Please note that the Pee Wee Minor practice on Friday Oct 19 at 7PM has  been moved forward to 6:15PM.  Please check your team's schedule link for the most current information.

Oct 3 - The Pee Wee Minor practice for Friday Oct 5 has been canceled for reasons out of our control.  Also the Pee Wee Minor practice on Friday Oct 19 at 7PM and the Pee Wee Major practice on Friday Oct 26 at 7PM have both been moved forward to 6:15PM.  Please check your team's schedule link for the most current information.

Sep 27 - A game has been added for this Sunday in Jamestown to the Pee Wee Major schedule.  Please check the schedule link for complete details

Sep 15 - We attended pre-season scheduling with the CSHL this weekend.  The team schedules have been updated with the latest game information.

August 24, 2007 - The last session of the Summer Hockey School has been moved from 6:45PM to 7:30PM on September 5th at The Igloo.
